The hottest ticket for a play in London right now is Marie Jones' acclaimed new comedy Stones in his Pockets. Set in an Irish village where a big-budget Hollywood movie is being shot, two actors play fifteen different characters on a film location, struggling to find a sense of reality in a world crazed by celebrity. Inspired by Marie Jones' own experience as an actor in films shot in Ireland, including 1993's "In the Name of the Father," Stones in his Pockets is directed by Ian McElhinney, who staged the London production.
Director Ian McElhinney has played in theatres throughout Ireland, the UK and North America, including the Abbey Theatre, Gate Theatre, Lyric Theatre and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. He has directed Gold in the Streets and Now You're Falling (Charabons), Northern Star (MIT Dramashop), and Christmas Eve Can Kill You (Arts and Lyon Theatres in Belfast). He recently opened Ruby, a new play about Ruby Murray, for Tinderbox Theatre Co.
