October 22, 2008 - November 23, 2008
At New York Theatre Workshop

Theatre for a New Audience presents, in partnership with New York Theatre Workshop, the New York premiere of C.I.C.T./ Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord's production of The Grand Inquisitor, adapted from Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov by Marie-Hélène Estienne. It is directed by Peter Brook and features longtime collaborator Bruce Myers in the title role.

The Grand Inquisitor has been performed extensively throughout Europe and South America. It offers a rare opportunity to experience Peter Brook's work on an intimate scale. Peter Brook and actor Bruce Myers represent an extraordinarily vital partnership, having worked together for over thirty-five years.

The Grand Inquisitor takes place in Seville during the Inquisition. Christ, in his infinite mercy, returns to the world of man in human form and enters the burning streets of the city, where, the previous day, the Grand Inquisitor had sent a hundred heretics into the flames. The Grand Inquisitor has Christ imprisoned and asks, "Is it you? You?"
