THE PLAY
This March, one of the funniest comedies
in Broadway history returns!
Academy Award®-winner Richard Dreyfuss
(Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind,
The Goodbye Girl, Mr. Holland's Opus) stars
as Foxwell J. Sly in SLY FOX, two time Tony
Award®-winner Larry Gelbart's (A Funny
Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, City of Angels,
M*A*S*H*, Tootsie) ingenious adaptation
of Ben Jonson's Volpone. Mr. Dreyfuss heads a cast
of seventeen that will include Bronson Pinchot,
Bob Dishy, Rene Auberjonois
and Elizabeth Berkley.
When SLY FOX first debuted
on Broadway more than 25 years ago (starring George C. Scott),
it was the sensation of many a season. The outrageous tale
of greed and guile, which Gelbart has set in the late 1800's
in San Francisco, broke box office records and remains for
many a high point in stage comedy.
Directed by Tony Award®-winner Arthur
Penn, whose stage and film credits include Fortune's
Fool, The Miracle Worker, Bonnie & Clyde,
and Little Big Man, SLY FOX begins
performances at Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre on March
16.
