Engagement

Not only have we moved into our first home, but also – for the first time – we are putting down roots in a vibrant community that, like us, has a rich and evolving history. We are honored by this exceptional opportunity. Theatre for a New Audience’s Polonsky Shakespeare Center will be an anchor of the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District and a place to gather, learn and explore. In it, we will be able to expand our education and humanities programs to include activities on weekends, after-school and during school vacations for students, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and other activities for artists, scholars, adults, and families. Check our our events page or sign up for our mailing list for updates. We are committed to understanding and exploring local issues and interests, and seek to serve our community through our work. In addition to the plays themselves, our Education and Humanities Programs will provide events which engage audience members beyond merely seeing the production. This year, our Education Department will engage a record number of Brooklyn schools, and we only want this number to grow. Our Mainstage and Studio will be resources for the neighborhood, and students in our education program will explore the craft of theatre on our Mainstage. We will rent both our studio space and mainstage to arts groups for performances and rehearsals at affordable rates, and offer them to community groups for meetings at no rental fee. We look forward to contributing to the vibrant Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District and the Brooklyn community at large, and to getting to know our neighbors! by Milton Glaser
