Engagement

Not only are we building our first home, but also – for the first time – we are putting down roots in a vibrant community that, like us, has a rich and evolving history.  We consider this a great opportunity!  Our first home will be an anchor of the BAM Cultural District and a place to gather, learn and explore.  In it, we will be able to expand our education and humanities programs to include activities on weekends, after-school and during school vacations for students; as well as lectures, seminars, workshops, and other activities for artists, scholars, adults and families. Our first home opens in early 2013, but we can’t wait to get to know our fellow Brooklynites, so we are launching a special series of free public programs in advance of moving in.  Check our our events page or sign up for our mailing listfor updates. We want to understand local issues and interests so that our programs engage the community around the themes of our plays and offer opportunities to explore broader, yet relevant, issues outside of our productions, as well as provide a framework for a continuing dialogue. Our Education programs are already in more public schools in Brooklyn than in any other borough, and we want this number to grow, especially in the neighborhoods surrounding our theatre.  With our home, we can offer students the opportunity to learn theatre-craft on-site and explore careers they might never have considered before.

Our Mainstage and Studio will be resources for the neighborhood.  We will rent these spaces to arts groups for performances and rehearsals at affordable rates and offer them to community groups for meetings at no rental fee.

We are very much looking forward to becoming a part of and contributing to the BAM Cultural District and the Brooklyn community at large, and to getting to know our neighbors!
